Description

The skill phones is about phone operations, this includes knowledge on the electronics of phones to network protocols and software managing phone connections(like asterisk and freepbx)

A Phone or Telephone is a device that enables two or more users to communicate via audio, mainly voice. It does this by translating sounds into electronic signals in order to transmit them over longer distances.

  • VOIP = Voice Over IP
  • POTS = Plain Old Telephone System (Analogue phone system)
  • ISDN = Integrated Services Digital Network (Digital phone/video system)
  • PSTN = Public Switched Telephone Network (what POTS & ISDN run on)
  • ATA = Analogue Telephone Adapter (connecting analogue phones to VOIP, functions as an FXS)
  • SIP = Session Initiation Protocol
  • IAX2 = Inter-Asterisk eXchange (protocol)
  • FXO = Foreign Exchange Office (analogue phones, faxes, modems)
  • FXS = Foreign Exchange Station (analogue telephone interface that provides power, dial-tone and ringing-voltage)
